Jamaholic Confession

It's all in the Family

I was fortunate enough to grow up in a musical family. I can remember some kind of music going on around me, or some sort of instrument always being around for me to try. My families musical heritage is in country music , something I always tried to overcome. Thanks to Jerry, Bella, and all the others bringing all kinds of music to the Jam, I went out and got a Banjo this year and I can't wait till I can pick some mean bluegrass with some of the ... more

Confessions From Jamaholics A - D

The Fire That Consumed Me

I suppose I'd been a fringe jamaholic for some time. Like others I would go in for a bout of jammy sort of music now and then. I had the typical sorts of material in my collection, Led Zeppelin Box Set, Grateful Dead - Skeletons in the closet, Woodstock compilations, that sort of stuff... In 1996 I went to a couple fall Dave Mathews shows, found my self on the ...more

Forgive me dude for I have sinned

Forgive me dude for I have sinned. This is my first jam confession. It's sad, but it probably come from years of neglecting sports. Sports have been put in front of me like a plate of ground beef for many years, but I just always seemed to "say NO" to trading hockey cards and watching or even enjoying hockey, baseball, or football after I turned 9. After ...more

Dead

More than likely, it started before that, but there is nothing that sticks out in my mind. Back in '89, after spending youthfully exuburat times at local dance clubs, we stumbled upon a motley looking crew of musicians that appealed to our souls as much as to our ears. Most likely, more.

From those moments, etched in mind and body, came...more

"My name is BradM...

...and I'm a taper."

"Hi, Brad!"

"It started innocently enough...I'd download shows other people had taped, listen to them, and imagine what it would be like to tape shows. When I'd be at shows where people were taping, I'd hover around them, basking in the technological glow, and the light from the equipment. It shone at me, like small beac...more

My mom made me do it.

So there I was, sitting at a friend's house listening to a 1967 Avalon Ballroom show, somehow immediately ensnared by the murky mayhem of the whole other one thing, grabbed by the immediacy of whateverthehell they were after that night. That tape changed everything, from living at the farm with the stage out back to mad mad grateful dead road trips to rediculous ...more

Lusty Musician

I started listening to music at the age of 13. really listening. I started liking death metal because it was different...then realized that different could be good too. I got into indie rock and Punk and Ska and fairly interesting musics like jazz and the list goes on...then i met a girl that i because infatuated with. Her brother was in a band with a couple ...more

it all started in 87

after seeing the boys at Kingswood north of toronto, the experience changed my 15yr old life.after turning 17 i decided to hit the road and started my life as a hardcore tourhead.to make a long, strange story short,i didn't return until the scene started to implode around the end of 93. after that,i gave it another go and headed out west for the acoustic shows in ...more

Hippy College

My Jamaholism dates back to the winter of 2000, before that I was your average Dude, right into Classic Rock ie. Zeppelin, Floyd, The Doors and also some newer off the wall for its time sort of stuff ie. Ween, Radiohead, Beck. I found myself attending Fleming college in the exciting metropolis of Lindsay Ont. Being from Chatham Ont. I wasn't to familiar with real...more

Some folks trust in reason...

It started with the opening notes of Playin... Pine Knob 7.13.98. The NFA continued well into the lot. I was a changed person after that show.

11.13.98 CSU Convocation Center in Cleveland sealed the deal! Still my favourite PH moment!

Thanks.

I also have to admit that Ekoostik Hookah completely got me hooked on jam bands. Before I saw them, I'd seen maybe a dozen concerts in my life, now a dozen concerts is a typical month. Hey check them out: http://www.ekoostik.com
