 | Confessions From Jamaholics M - P | | | Keys player for Dr. Huxtable
I became a Jamaholic when I joined Ottawa band Dr. Huxtable.
I started listening to the sweet sounds of other bands and I got hooked.

The complete journey would be a few hundred pages at least.........
But to nail it down to one reason for my love of the jam, I would have to say one thing only:
PHISH 12.6.97 Ticket - $30
Night in a seedy hotel - $40
Bag of US schwag - $50!?#?@!

 | | | One Night I Met Some Angels...
...I didn't know that they were sent into my life for a purpose (at the time), but I had met some very kynd folks, who were allll about the jam. I had always been a big music fan and was always open to new bands and new kinds of music. These angels introduced me to the Dead (& Phish) and while it was a lot to absorb for a "newbie", I got hooked and it changed my ...more

They say that going away to school will change you...I just didn't know how much. I went away with my ears closed and moved in with 3 musicians. Started listening to DMB, Bela fleck and then the revolution happened. I met some dude from one of ontario's fine private schools. He suggested I try the phish...you'll like it he said. Well I bit of more than I cou...more

 | | | I have problems.
I have problems with jam.
I was introduced to jam in March of 1990. A California-based band is to blame. They fed me jam until I knew I had to have more. Eventually, I couldn't get enough. Soon, it was all about jam. New jam, old jam, fresh jam, whatever. Hey - you got jam? Gimme some. I would try to encourage others to get involved. "Try it, ...more

It all started about ten years ago, hearing John Popper play harmonica and thinking "what the hell is THAT?!?"
Saw the Allman Brothers with Blues Traveler opening that summer - picked-up a flyer about something called "HORDE" with some bands with weird names like Spin Doctors and Aquarium Rescue Unit, and some band called Phish ("Hah! It's like 'fish...more

 | | | ummm....
I became a "jamaholic" when I first
started understanding music itself
(about 1996-7). By realizing just how hard it actually is to 'jam'. It's not hard to just play and have it sound okay but the trick is to give it a groove.

 | | | It's all in the Family
I was fortunate enough to grow up in a musical family. I can remember some kind of music going on around me, or some sort of instrument always being around for me to try. My families musical heritage is in country music , something I always tried to overcome. Thanks to Jerry, Bella, and all the others bringing all kinds of music to the Jam, I went out and got a B...more

Well.... I have always loved music... but every type... from Debbie Gibson to Black Sabbath..
But, I guess mine would have to go back to 1994 when I discovered Jefferson Airplane and listening to Spare Chaynge on the After Bathing At Baxters. A little jam by Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady and Spencer Dryden. That was the only instumental jam on the cd and I...more

This is not a confension of how I became a Jamaholic but rather a humerous tale of woe at a gathering of a jamaholic clan. The year was 1996. The place Carling Ontario. The Venue "EDEN FEST".
Myself and a gagle of my closest freinds spent 4 days watching some of the greatest bands of the time. One day the bunch of us were standing oustide enjoying the be...more
